Focus on application areas including healthcare & therapeutics, agriculture, food & nutraceuticals

Gaithersburg, Maryland, US, July 21, 2009: Genomic Pioneers Gateway has announced a call for partnership with societies, industry associations, regional biotech clusters and other likeminded forums for their upcoming programs. Genomic Pioneers Gateway is the thought leadership forum and ideation platform comprising thought leaders, key think tanks, companies, research centers and societies for envisioning and giving direction to the field of Genomics. Hello Pioneers,

Its been a while. We have been busy trying to make the gateway more useful for the community. We have been trying to reach out to Societies, regional councils, media and tech partners to spread the word around the Gateway. This will help making the Gateway a truly inclusive forum.

We have also finished interviewing a few promising Scientists and innovators who are working on ambitious broad application research themes in genomics. We will feature them in the gateway as soon as we have them ready to be posted.

What has also been keeping us busy are initial thoughts on an ambitious community virtual conference (perhaps mini-conference) on applied genomics. The dates and time are still up for discussion and so are the themes.

Here are some of the initial thoughts for sessions and themes:

If we were to break up the sessions into two parts spreading across two days to keep it light and engaging, here are some thoughts on potentially interesting sessions, if we can pull this agenda together.

Session I - OMICS Saturday (perhaps one or two invited ‘virtual’ speakers for each topic)

* Next-Gen Agriculture powered by Genomics
* Towards a Healthier World - Advancements in Food & Nutrition using Genomics
* Discovery Happens Here - Biodiscovery using genomics

Session II - Personalized Sunday (again perhaps one or two invited ‘virtual’ speakers for each topic)

· Who let these genes out? - Recent advancements and scope of different genome projects- 1000 genomes, personal genomics…
· Genomics of Aging- advancements and progress
· What is next in OMICS?

Its still very early into the planning, thoughts are still broad. We would love to hear from you on your thoughts and ideas. If you would like to contribute, participate, speak or suggest a speaker…that would be fantastic! Together we can make this happen.

cheers,

Ashwin
